BELLINGHAM, Wash. A lawsuit has been filed against the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office over a January crash involving one of its deputies that sent two drivers to the hospital, My Bellingham Now reported.
Court documents state that Bellingham resident Tracey Wiebe was struck by a vehicle driven by Deputy Carson Laughlin on Jan. 20.
According to the claim, Wiebe was waiting several cars behind a school bus to turn left onto Saratoga Place. As she slowed to make the turn, she noticed the deputy's car cross the center line and pass vehicles behind her at a high rate of speed.
Wiebe was unable to move out of the way in time, and the impact sent her car spinning while the deputy's vehicle rolled over, the court documents state.
Both drivers were hospitalized following the crash. No other vehicles were involved and no one else was hurt, according to the report.
The lawsuit seeks an unspecified amount of damages from the sheriff's office, Laughlin and other parties, per My Bellingham Now.
