This profile is part of "The Record Stands," a TROH special series.
When a defamation blog decides someone is a target, the first thing to disappear from the portrait is the work. The target becomes a name attached to a complaint, and whatever they have written, taught, or built gets quietly set aside. This profile puts the work back on the table.
Dr. William Singer, the Bellevue counselor and guardian ad litem whose career record we examined elsewhere in this series, has a documented public body of work: policy commentary under his own byline, video explainers aimed at families entering family court, reported research, and years of university teaching. Here is what that work is, where to find it, and what it contributes.
TROH's profiles are independent commentary. Dr. Singer did not participate in, contribute to, or endorse this article. Everything below comes from published sources.
A Bylined Argument on Coercive Control Law
In March 2026, Singer published a guest essay under his own name: "Washington Coercive Control Law Implementation Needs Improving," carried on the WIBM Substack. Washington's coercive control legislation is one of the more contested pieces of family law policy in the state, and Singer's essay does what good practitioner commentary should do. It argues from clinical experience, pressing for bilateral and therapeutic models of domestic violence intervention rather than approaches built around a single party's narrative.
Agree with the position or argue with it; either way, this is what credentialed participation in public policy looks like. He put his name on it. He put his clinical reasoning in it. The footnote bio attached to that essay describes him as "a Bellevue-based counselor and guardian ad litem who has been court-appointed to help families through conflict for nearly fifty years," and the argument in the piece reads like exactly that: someone who has watched intervention models succeed and fail across decades of actual cases, and who wants the law to absorb what practitioners have learned.
On Camera, Explaining the System to the People Inside It
The Northwest Evaluation Center's website hosts two video commentaries that deserve more attention than they get:
- "William Singer on the financial burden of litigation in family court." Family court litigation costs are one of the quiet crises of the legal system. An evaluator willing to say so on camera, from inside the system, is doing public education. - "William Singer on the risks of working with an unqualified Guardian ad Litem." This one is striking. A serving GAL since 1980 warning the public about unqualified guardians ad litem is a professional policing his own field, in public, by name.
Both videos are short, plain, and aimed at the people who most need the information: parents and families about to enter a process they do not understand, facing costs they cannot predict, relying on court-appointed professionals whose qualifications they have no idea how to check. That last problem, how to vet the evaluator, is one this series cares about, and it is telling that Singer himself has been out front teaching it.
The Research Record
Singer's published bio describes him as the author of "a well-regarded and referenced research study on counseling styles and outcomes," presumed to be his Oregon State doctoral work. We flag this the way our research file does: the study's title has not been located in public databases, so we present the claim as it appears in his bio rather than as an independently verified citation. The doctorate itself, a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Oregon State University, is part of the consistent biographical record carried both on his site and in third-party bios.
We include this item for two reasons. First, completeness: readers deserve the whole picture, clearly labeled. Second, honesty about sourcing is the entire difference between a counter-site and a defamation blog. When something is verified, we say how. When something comes from the subject's own published bio, we say that too.
Decades in the Classroom
The same bio records a substantial teaching career: faculty professorships at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of Puget Sound and City University of Seattle, a graduate teaching appointment at Oregon State University, and a current appointment as Honorary Instructor at Walden University. These teaching items, like the certifications in his post-nominals, come from his self-published bio and we attribute them accordingly.
What is not in doubt is the pattern the teaching record fits. Since 2015, Singer's bio reports, he has served as an NBCC Doctoral Fellowship Mentor, a role repeated in the third-party WIBM bio. NWEC, the center he directs, provides state-approved supervision for therapists. His memberships include the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts and the National Association of Forensic Counselors. The A4 Safety Alliance research page lists him as "William Singer, Ph.D. NCC, CFT, CCFC, NWEC Program Director, Bellevue, Washington."
Add it up and a consistent picture emerges: a practitioner who trains, supervises, mentors, and publishes, in addition to evaluating.
Why the Work Matters More Than the Smear
Here is the editorial point of this profile, stated plainly. The defamation blog's method is subtraction. Remove the decades, remove the publications, remove the teaching, and the reader is left with a hollow figure who exists only to be accused. Restoration is the opposite method. The essay on coercive control law exists and has a byline. The videos exist and can be watched. The teaching appointments, the mentorship, the memberships, the research claim, all of it sits in the public record, labeled by source.
Readers of the blog deserve to know the work exists. Whether they end up persuaded by his policy arguments or comforted by his explainers is up to them. That choice should be made with the full record in view, which is the choice the defamation blog works hard to prevent.
