Edmonds Shopping Center Fire Damages Gyro Makers Restaurant
A significant fire broke out early Saturday morning at a commercial complex in Edmonds, significantly affecting a popular eatery and prompting a multi-unit fire response.
Responders arrived shortly before 6 a.m. following a call reporting a smoky odor in the Westgate area near Edmonds Way. Though flames and smoke were not yet visible from the sidewalk, inspection of the Gyro Makers location revealed fogged windows, a sign of trapped heat and smoke inside the unoccupied establishment.
Upon entry, crews discovered an intense fire burning within the restaurant’s interior. Firefighters suppressed the blaze within ten minutes, while supplementary teams positioned themselves to shield neighboring storefronts from potential spread.
Approximately 36 personnel from 16 fire units took part in the operation, bolstered by support from the Shoreline Fire Department, officials said.
Gyro Makers absorbed the brunt of the damage, with one neighboring business experiencing moderate impact. A single firefighter received a brief medical assessment on-site following exposure but resumed duties without further issue. No other injuries were reported.
Investigators from South County Fire are now reviewing evidence to pinpoint the origin and cause of the incident.
