A former Vancouver foster parent who cared for dozens of children over more than a decade has been taken into custody following a major investigative effort by local law enforcement.
Darold A. Slack, 58, was processed into the Clark County Jail after detectives from the Vancouver Police Department’s Children’s Justice Center concluded a months-long probe into allegations of sexual abuse.
The investigation was triggered on April 27, 2026, when authorities received an initial report concerning a sexual assault involving a minor. Detectives obtained and executed a search warrant at Slack’s residence on May 1, resulting in his arrest shortly thereafter.
Records show Slack provided foster care to roughly 55 children across the Vancouver area between 2013 and 2025. His home served as a placement site for youth referred through state child welfare programs.
Slack has been charged with multiple serious offenses, including five counts of second-degree child molestation, three counts of second-degree rape of a child, one count of third-degree rape, two counts of fourth-degree assault, two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, and one count of communication with a minor for immoral purposes.
Prosecutors noted that the timeframe of the alleged incidents spans many years, with some alleged conduct occurring when victims were as young as six. Investigators said physical evidence, digital communications, and witness statements all contributed to the breadth of the charges.
Given the number of children who lived in Slack’s home and the duration of his involvement in foster care, officials believe additional victims may yet emerge. Detectives are particularly interested in speaking with individuals who lived in or visited Slack’s residence during the 2013–2025 period.
Anyone with information—whether as a former foster child, sibling, relative, or community member—is encouraged to contact Detective Cpl. Gunnar Skollingsberg, who leads the Children’s Justice Center’s investigative unit. Inquiries may be sent to [email protected].
Authorities emphasized that the case remains active, with ongoing interviews and forensic analysis. No additional updates are scheduled at this stage, though updates are expected as investigative milestones are reached.
