A 21-year-old man with a prior record of felony convictions was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon following a foot chase and a coordinated, multi-agency search across the Carlsborg area.

The event began around 3:00 p.m. on April 30, when an off-duty Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted a local man walking near Carlsborg Road.

Sheriff’s Office officials stated the individual was subject to a confirmed Department of Corrections warrant for Escape from Community Custody.

Authorities considered him a potential risk, noting his criminal record includes prior felony convictions for third-degree assault, theft of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

When responding officers converged on the location and attempted to make contact, officials say the man fled on foot, prompting an immediate and extensive dragnet.

The suspect’s flight prompted a rapid deployment of resources from across the North Olympic Peninsula.

Agencies assisting the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office included the Sequim Police Department, OPNET Detectives, Washington State Patrol, the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Port Angeles Police Department.

Despite the heavy human law enforcement presence, the pursuit was ultimately spearheaded by a four-legged officer. According to law enforcement reports, K-9 “Dutch” picked up the man's scent and successfully tracked the suspect through the Carlsborg area to Ruth’s Place.

According to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, the man attempted a final evasion by running through a local business and exiting through the rear doors. However, with the perimeter secured and K-9 Dutch closing in, officials report the suspect ultimately surrendered to authorities without further incident.

He was subsequently transported and booked into the Clallam County Jail on his outstanding DOC warrant, as well as a new charge for Resisting Arrest.
