EVERETT, Wash. A new trustee has joined the Everett Community College board of trustees following an appointment from Gov. Bob Ferguson, the college announced Wednesday.

The incoming member, a leader with the Everett Community College Foundation, fills the seat left vacant by a longtime board member who had served for 14 years on the governing body. The former trustee, appointed in October 2012 by then-Gov. Christine Gregoire, recently retired from the board. According to a college spokesperson, he participated in his final meeting on Tuesday.

Trustee appointments to community college boards are made by the state governor and carry five-year terms.

The new appointee previously attended Everett Community College as a Running Start student, a state program enabling high school students to earn concurrent high school and college credits. He subsequently attended the University of Washington, graduating with a degree in construction management.

The college's president stated in a press release that the new trustee's background as a former student provides a unique and meaningful perspective to the board. The president added that his involvement in local business and community leadership will offer valuable insight regarding the region's workforce needs.
