Everett A Flock Safety camera was damaged in Granite Falls on Tuesday evening, according to confirmation from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of Quarry Road and Mountain Loop Highway. A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, Courtney O’Keefe, provided details in a Wednesday email.
The Granite Falls Police Department is leading the investigation into the incident. As of Tuesday morning, no individuals had been taken into custody, and the probe remains ongoing.
Investigators are collecting fragments of the camera for forensic analysis.
Granite Falls currently operates seven Flock Safety units, as listed on the city’s public transparency dashboard. These devices function as automated license plate readers, employing artificial intelligence to process traffic footage. Officers can检索 vehicles using license plate numbers or specific attributes like brand, model, or hue. Their deployment has become increasingly common among law enforcement agencies seeking to bolster criminal investigations, particularly in cases involving motor vehicle theft.
Officials in Granite Falls had not responded to inquiries at press time.
Across the United States, law enforcement agencies have reported similar disruptions to their Flock systems, with vandalism rising amid heightened scrutiny of surveillance practices.
Since late 2025, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, and Edmonds have terminated their Flock Safety agreements. These decisions followed disclosures that federal immigration authorities had gained access to local networks. A recent Washington Post review identified at least fifty officers nationwide accused of不当 use of Flock tools, with a notable share involving surveillance of intimate partners.
This remains an unfolding situation; further updates are anticipated in coming days.
