A 45-year-old man was killed Monday afternoon when he was struck by a train in the Marysville area.

Marysville police officers arrived at the scene near the intersection of 76th Street Northeast and State Avenue around 4 p.m. after receiving reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a locomotive.

According to the Marysville Police Department, the victim had been on the tracks shortly before the crash. Witnesses reported seeing individuals trespassing on the rail line minutes prior, noting that one person was acting in an erratic manner.

Preliminary findings suggest that the consumption of drugs may have played a role in the fatal incident, though investigators are still determining the full circumstances.

This event represents the second fatality and the fourth significant train-related occurrence in Marysville this September. The police department noted that previous incidents have involved a mix of factors, including substance impairment, mental health emergencies, and poor judgment by motorists and pedestrians regarding when to cross the tracks.

The following day, Tuesday, the department executed a planned enforcement operation known as Operation Clear Track. This initiative is part of a broader national effort to improve rail safety.

During the operation, officers performed focused patrols at various railroad crossings across the city to increase public awareness and prevent similar accidents. The primary objective is to encourage the public to remain off the tracks, follow crossing signals, and avoid attempting to pass through a crossing while a train is approaching.
