Police investigate pellet gun report at middle school

An investigation was launched by the Arlington Police Department on Thursday after school officials reported that a student at a local middle school might be in possession of a firearm.

The initial report concerning Haller Middle School on East 1st Street came in at 3:50 p.m. Officers, along with K-9 units, were dispatched to the campus to conduct a search of the premises and gather evidence.

A later update released by law enforcement that evening clarified that detectives had located a replica pellet gun. Authorities stated that the item was recovered from a middle-school-aged individual off campus, and they could not verify if the device had ever been brought onto school grounds during the school day. The individual was not placed into custody at that time.

A spokesperson for Arlington Public Schools stated that the student did not attend classes on Friday. The district declined to discuss potential disciplinary actions, citing student privacy regulations.

The Arlington Police Department has forwarded recommendations for both felony and misdemeanor charges to the Juvenile Division of the Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for review.
