WOODLAND, Wash. - A motorcyclist died after a crash involving a car on southbound Interstate 5 just south of Woodland early Thursday morning, the Washington State Patrol said, according to KATU.
The crash was reported at about 3:20 a.m. at milepost 19. Law enforcement initially said the motorcyclist was the only vehicle involved, but troopers later determined that another car was part of the collision.
Per KATU, law enforcement caught up with the other driver several miles south of the crash scene. Troopers were not sure whether that driver would face criminal charges for the collision.
The freeway reopened at about 8 a.m. after a crash investigation that kept the southbound lanes blocked through the early morning hours.
During the closure, the Washington State Department of Transportation asked drivers to avoid the area or expect delays. A detour was in place at Exit 21 to Woodland, with drivers using State Route 503 as a bypass, according to the department.
