Records Detail Scope of Commissioner Selection

Recently released public records provide a closer look at how Clallam County Superior Court selected its newest Family Court Commissioner. The documents indicate that the court interviewed only three candidates to fill the vacancy created when former Commissioner Brian Parker was terminated in February.

Lorraine Rimson was chosen for the role and began serving on June 1, 2026.

The interview schedule, prepared by Court Administrator Lacey Halberg’s office, confirms that only three interview slots were scheduled over a two-day period. Two candidates were interviewed on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. The third interview took place on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.

The identities of the applicants who were not selected have been redacted by the county. The accompanying redaction log cites RCW 42.56.250(1)(b), a Washington state law that exempts public employment applications from disclosure.

The court also released the 15-question script used to evaluate the candidates. The document includes inquiries regarding legal background, research practices, experience with therapeutic courts, and interactions with self-represented litigants.

Several questions address judicial temperament and decision-making processes. Candidates were asked how they proceed "when there seems to be no good alternatives" and what steps they take if required to issue a ruling when they do not feel prepared to do so.

Another question acknowledges that "many lawyers express a dislike for family law matters" and asks applicants why they wish to dedicate their workday to these types of cases.
