Everett An 18-year-old man remains jailed following his arrest after allegedly firing multiple rounds at a UPS driver outside his Monroe residence, prompting a specialized law enforcement response.

The suspect, apprehended Tuesday in Lacey, was formally processed into Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of first-degree attempted assault and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, both felony offenses, according to court filings.

The incident unfolded on October 8, when a delivery driver reported being targeted while attempting to leave a “we missed you” notice at a residence in the 18000 block of Blueberry Lane. As he positioned himself near the front entrance, gunfire erupted from inside the apartment, police noted.

Though the driver escaped unharmed, detectives stated in charging documents that he had stepped back just moments before the shooting began, likely avoiding serious or even life-threatening wounds.

Initial dispatch led to a scene where officers coordinated with the North Sound Metro SWAT team to assist in containing the area and engaging the suspected shooter, who had already exited through a rear door, as captured on surveillance video.

Investigative efforts uncovered five spent projectiles embedded in a neighboring vacant unit, alongside visible bullet impacts on the front door of the suspect’s apartment. During a subsequent search of the residence, officers located several handgun magazines, over two dozen live rounds, and a red dot sight in the suspect’s bedroom.

Under current law and his own criminal history, the individual is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to his age and a prior felony conviction, charging papers indicate.

Law enforcement from Lacey and Olympia assisted Monroe officers in taking the suspect into custody Tuesday afternoon. He has remained in custody since, with no bail initially set, records show.
