The Sequim School Board of Directors convened on Monday evening to address several key items, including support for a new local park, capital improvements at Greywolf Elementary, and the recognition of departing staff members. The session commenced at 5:30 p.m. and proceeded without any public comments from community members.
Park and Infrastructure Support
The board voted to endorse the City of Sequim’s application for a grant related to the proposed Ruth C. McChord Park. The funding request seeks retroactive reimbursement for the city’s purchase of the land allocated for the future community space. The site is situated near the school district campus, senior housing, and residential areas, with the project intended to preserve local Garry oak habitats and enhance connectivity to the Olympic Discovery Trail.
In a separate action, the board approved the use of Capital Projects Levy Funds to install a new ramp and stair system at Greywolf Elementary School, aiming to improve safety and accessibility. The board also renewed the district’s WIAA membership for middle and high school athletics for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Staff Departures
As the academic year concludes, the district is processing the departures of several long-serving employees. The board ratified the retirements of district Administrator Ned Floeter, a high school teacher, an elementary teacher, a district nurse, and a high school security staff member. Additionally, the board approved the resignations of three teachers.
Upcoming Dates
With graduation season approaching, the board highlighted several key dates for the community. There will be no school on Memorial Day, May 25. The Sequim High School graduation ceremony is scheduled for June 5, followed by the final day of classes with an early release on June 11.
