The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife closed the Stillaguamish River to all recreational fishing until Nov. 2 to protect endangered Chinook salmon. The river was closed from Marine Drive (south of Stanwood) upstream to the forks at the confluence of the North Fork and South Fork Stillaguamish rivers near Arlington. Preliminary monitoring showed the number of protected Chinook salmon reached the threshold to close the river's fisheries.

Fishing will most likely resume Nov. 2 because the state expects most Chinook will no longer be present in the river system. Regular 2026-27 Washington Sport Fishing rules still apply.

The lower North Fork Stillaguamish River from the mouth to the Highway 530 Bridge (Cicero Bridge) remains closed to fishing until further notice, as announced Sept. 19.

The upper North Fork Stillaguamish River from the Highway 530 Bridge to North Fork Falls is closed to all fishing until Nov. 1 under annual fishing rules, as is the South Fork Stillaguamish River from the mouth to the Mountain Loop Highway Bridge above Granite Falls.
