VANCOUVER, Wash. Vancouver police say they have identified the man suspected of shooting a restaurant employee last month, and he is already in custody elsewhere in the state.

According to a news release from the City of Vancouver, detectives with the Vancouver Police Department Crime Reduction Unit identified Jesus Alberto Garcia, 22, as the suspect in the Sept. 4 shooting. An arrest warrant charging Garcia with attempted murder has been issued.

Garcia was arrested by Yakima police on Oct. 15 on unrelated charges and remains in custody there, the city said. He is expected to be extradited to Clark County at a future date to face the attempted murder charge.

The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 4 in the 5000 block of East Fourth Plain Boulevard. Police said an employee working at a restaurant in the area was shot by a man near the back of the business, and the suspect ran from the scene on foot. The victim was taken to an area hospital with injuries described as not life threatening.

At the time, police said they were working to locate and interview possible witnesses to determine an accurate description of the suspect, and said there was no believed danger to the general public.

The city said nothing additional is being released while the Crime Reduction Unit continues its investigation.
