VANCOUVER, Wash. Trap Door Brewing has closed its original uptown Vancouver location and handed the keys to Vice Beer, which plans to reopen the space at 2315 Main St. as its third taproom, newschoolbeer.com reported.
The Trap Door pub closed on Sept. 30, and Vice took the keys on Oct. 1. Co-owners Michael and Bria Perozzo hoped to reopen around Oct. 7 after a quick refresh and rebrand, according to the report.
Vice Beer opened on Vancouver's east side in 2022 and served as the launching pad for El Viejon Taquería, with the two businesses partnering in each other's operations. Known early on for hazy and fruit beers, smoothies and an 80s and 90s pop culture aesthetic, Vice has more recently embraced lagers and West Coast IPAs, and this year added a permanent year-round patio, morning coffee service with a special breakfast menu from El Viejon, and a partnership with Atari on retro gaming inspired beers, newschoolbeer.com reported.
The new location, nicknamed Uptown Vice for now, will be Vice's second in central Vancouver alongside the tiny satellite pub A Little Vice, which sits just 16 blocks away. Bria Perozzo told newschoolbeer.com there are no plans to consolidate, saying the taproom has built a strong neighborhood following.
Michael Perozzo said the new space will add a dash of sports to the brand's retro theme, keeping the venue's three TVs and its role hosting Timbers Army Northern Alliance watch parties, and adding five or six standing arcade cabinets. Trap Door's covered Beer Porch patio and food trucks E-San Thai and Taco City will remain, and El Viejon is exploring a burgers and sandwiches concept for the space, according to the report.
The Perozzos said Trap Door's owners surprised them with the lease offer at an Aug. 2 meeting. It is a time of change for Trap Door as well: owner Bryan Shull announced in April he is running for Clark County Council District 1, and he told newschoolbeer.com that operating in the hospitality space has grown ever more difficult in Washington and in Vancouver in particular. Trap Door's Washougal brewery and taproom, opened in 2022 in the former Logsdon Farmhouse Ales space, remains in regular operation, and Shull and partner Jim West have a 42,000-square-foot food truck and beer hall project, Prairie View Station in Brush Prairie, scheduled for 2027.
