MARYSVILLE, Wash. Police have opened a homicide investigation after a woman's body was found inside a trash bin outside a Marysville apartment complex Wednesday night, FOX 13 Seattle reported.

The discovery was made along Grove Street near 74th Street Northeast at the Cedar House Apartments. Investigators believe the victim was a woman in her 20s, according to the Marysville Police Department.

Resident Bob Stocks told FOX 13 he found the body while moving waste bins at the complex. He said one bin did not match the others on the property and was unusually heavy when he tried to slide it out of the way, and when he opened it to see what was inside, he found the body. Stocks said he immediately called police and questioned why anyone would be so cruel.

Commander Rob Lamoureux said the victim was found wearing only a shirt and socks, with a blanket covering her inside the bin. Detectives estimate the bin was placed outside the complex sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon.

Lamoureux said he has been with the department for 40 years and has served as a public information officer for more than 20, and he called the case a first for the city. He said it was shocking that someone would resort to dumping a body in a garbage bin.

The woman's identity had not been released, and police were working to determine the cause of death, confirm who she was and identify any potential suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Marysville Police Department.
