Work commenced on October 5 to address gaps within the trail corridor, linking the Whitehorse Trail with the Centennial Trail.
Four segments of the Whitehorse Regional Trail are currently closed to the public. The initial three miles originating in Arlington are undergoing resurfacing and repairs related to landslides. Additional closures affect 1.7 miles east of the Trafton Trailhead, the French Creek bridge located just over five miles west of Darrington, and a section west of Darrington at 435th Avenue, which is being rerouted to bypass a bank failure.
Construction activities are scheduled to continue through the spring of 2027. Should additional funding become available, the project may also include new signage and enhancements to trailheads.
The Whitehorse Trail extends for more than 27 miles, connecting Arlington and Darrington. It follows the former Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad path through the North Stillaguamish River Valley, running alongside Highway 530 and the North Fork Stillaguamish River for much of its length.
