A New Name, an Older Archive: Why Some of Our Articles Predate This Website
The Real Olympic Herald is a rebrand of an older local news publication. We migrated the full archive intact, which is why some articles carry dates from before this site went live.
A few readers have written in with the same fair question: if The Real Olympic Herald is new, why does the archive carry articles dated months and even years before this site appeared?
The short answer: the articles are real, and the dates are correct.
A rebrand, not a birth
The Real Olympic Herald is the successor to an older local news publication that covered Clallam County and the North Olympic Peninsula under a different name, the Olympic Peninsula Ledger. Same newsroom, same beat, same standards, new name.
When we relaunched under the new brand, we had a choice: start with an empty archive, or bring the older work with us. We chose to migrate the full archive, every court report, every school board story, every investigation, because that reporting is still the public record of this community, and deleting it would serve no one.
Why the dates look the way they do
Each migrated article kept its original publication date, because that is when the reporting was actually done and published. A story about a 2025 court hearing should say 2025, regardless of what logo sits at the top of the page today.
So if you land on an article dated before this site’s relaunch, you are reading a piece from the Ledger archive, presented as it originally ran, under the same corrections policy we apply to everything we publish.
What carries over, and what changed
Carried over: the full article archive, the corrections policy, the commitment to public-records reporting, and the staff. Changed: the name, the design, and the site itself, rebuilt to be faster and easier to read.
